Jomsom
High up in the Annapurna Mountains of the Himalayas is a sacred place called Muktinath. This location has been a sacred pilgrimage spot for both Buddhists and Hindus to see the every burning sacred flame. Fueled by an underground gas fissure, it has been burning for centuries.
Muktinath Temple features 108 golden taps that continuously bubbles forth holy water as ithave done for centuries. A number of Hindu deities are honored here including the god Vishnu.
The region of Jomsom and Muktinath is famous for its incredible beauty. It lies between the mighty peaks of the Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri, the 10th and 7th highest mountains in the world, respectively. Here you trek next to deep gorges and valleys that are nestled between the snowcapped peaks.
For 15 incredible days, you travel from the sub-tropical forests just north of the picturesque mountain city of Pokharato the stunning heights near Muktinath at 3,817 meters, which is right in the heart of the snowcapped peaks.
There is only 10 actual days of trekking, which begins with a short flight to Jomsom near Muktinath. After taking the short climb to Muktinath, the trip is primarily downhill until you reach the village of Tikhenhunga before returning to Pokhara. The journey ends by first class bus through the Trisuli River Valley as you make your way back to the legendary city of Kathmandu.
